Mater Private Network is Ireland’s leading provider of high acuity complex care, offering consultation, diagnostics, treatment, and procedure services across the country. The network is grounded by its flagship Dublin hospital situated on the historic intersection of Eccles Street and Dorset Street. The scalloped Dorset Street façade captures the scale and rhythm of the existing streetscape using delicate terra cotta fins and intentional horizontal fragmenting to channel the pattern established by the neighbouring Georgian terrace houses.

The hospital will undergo a substantial expansion to add over 6000sqm of space across a 5-storey addition. The expansion will increase existing emergency and urgent care facilities, accessed through a new ambulance drop-off and pickup route. New operating theatres, laboratory services, and ICU department will stack atop the curated reception area, stepping back as the addition rises to maintain the scale of the Georgian streetscape.

The top floor of the extension features staff-centred amenities including a garden terrace and green roof, ensuring that the wellbeing of healthcare professionals remains fundamental to the design of the addition. The extension is motivated to deliver high fidelity medical care while enhancing the historically significant landscape to enrich the experience of patients, staff, and the greater community.
